A print server or a printer server is a special type of computer or electronic device that is connected to one or more printers on a network.

A print server consists of a host computer and one or more than on shared printers.  It is required to implement a printing protocol. Anyone can choose between the options like Microsoft Network Printing protocol or Printer Daemon protocol. This device connects one or more printers to Local Area Network. Most often the print server has one LAN connector and one or more physical ports. Print servers that work dedicatedly for connecting the printers support various printing protocols like Netware, TCP/IP. NetWare, DCL, SPX etc. Dedicated server for printers can be easily configured and their features are also very helpful.

This will result in the fact that you will be able to access the printer from any of the room of your house. Most of the new printers come with the built in print server now a day no matter it is laser or ink jet printer. But if you don’t have that in-built facility you can still add print server to your network using a router. You just need to make sure this router has a built-in print server. You can also use another PC to share the printer. However, these options have their own limitation. The best choice for sharing according to the computer support experts is to buy a new print server.

You can easily add a stand alone print server to your printer. You will get a number of print server choices and you will have to choose from these on bases of the output of your printer. Most of the printers have USB port. You will have to choose between the WiFi or Ethernet print server. If you have got wireless router you can go for the Ethernet print sever. If you don’t have that you can go for the WiFi connection.

For installing the print server to your printer you need to follow some computer support steps. The steps are easy and simple to follow. Tech support guy has explained these steps one by one and by following these steps you will be able to install the print server. First you will need to download the printers drivers to all the PC from which you want to have access to the printers. Now you will have to consult the manual of your print server because you will need to get the IP address of the print server. Now you will need to go to the ‘start’ button. From ‘start’ button, you will need to go to the option ‘setting’. From ‘setting’ you would need to move to ‘printers and faxes’. Now you will need to click on ‘add printer’.

Now you will need to click on the option ‘local printer’. After that you will need to go to the option ‘automatically detect and install my plug and play printer’. You need to uncheck this option. Now a new screen will come. On this new screen you will need to click on the option ‘create a new port’ and then you will need to select ‘standard TCP/IP. You will now need to click through the next screen until you get the prompt asking for the name or IP address. Now you will need to type the IP address of the print server in the place. A prompt will come asking your choice of the printer. If you have got the printer drivers already on the computer, you can go ahead and select ‘browse’. If the drivers need to have a disk inserted with it, you will need to select the option ‘have disk’. With this computer help you are done with adding the printer server.
