A bootable CD is one which allows the computer to boot from the CD. Most of the operating systems like Windows, Mac and Linux include a bootable CD or DVD with your computer so that in case of operating system failure you can boot from the bootable CD or DVD.

Operating systems like Mac, Windows and Linux include a bootable DVD or CD with which you can boot your CD or DVD in case of operating system failure. But the newer versions of laptops and notebooks do not include the optical drives that are needed to use these bootable discs. In case your computer does not have the optical driver in it, you can still boot your computer with these bootable discs using a USB flash drive. With some computer support from experts you will need to use a computer with optical drive so that you can set up the USDB drive.

If you are using Windows as your operating system, you will need to insert the CD into the computer’s optical drive. Computer support experts suggest you to insert the flash drive into the USB port of the computer. Now you will need to go to the ‘start’ menu and open the ‘accessories’. On ‘accessories’ you will need to launch the command prompt.

On the command box you will need to type ‘diskpart’ and need to hit ‘enter’.  Now you need to type ‘list disk’ and then again press ‘enter’. Look for the number that appears on the list just next to the flash drive. If you don’t have any idea which entry represents the flash drive you can have a look on the capacity part of the disk to get a hint on it.

Computer support experts suggest you to type ‘select disk 1’. Now you will need too type the commands. First you will type ‘clean’. Then you will need to press ‘enter’.  Then you will need to type ‘create partition primary’ and then again press ‘enter’. Now, type ‘select partition 1’ and press ‘enter’. ‘Then type ‘active’ and press ‘enter’. Now type ‘formatfs=fat32’ and again press ‘enter’. Now type ‘assign’ , pres ‘enter ‘ and lastly type ‘exit’ and press ‘enter’.

You will have to carry the process on by typing xcopy d:*.* /s/e/f g:’. It will be a bit modified. Yoy will need to type your drive letter in the place of‘d’ and you will have to place the flash drive letter in the place of ‘g’. When the files will be copied, the flash drive will be bootable.

If you are using Macintosh as operating system, computer support experts want you to put the MAC operating system CD to the disk and insert the flash drive into the USB port. On the menu bar you will need to click on the option ‘utility’ and from there you will need to click on ‘disk utility’.

Now you will need to click on the flash drive icon. You will need to click on the option ‘partition ‘and then to ‘1 partition’. You will need to click on ‘options’. If it is Intel processor you need to select ‘GUID Partition Table’. Now click ‘ok’. On the main screen of ‘disk utility’ you will need to click on ‘erase’. From the ‘volume format’ you need to choose the right option. Now you need to click on ‘erase’ to complete the flash drive formatting. You will now need to click on ‘restore’. Now you will need to drag the flash drive’s icon to the area ‘destination’ and Mac OS disc icon to the area ‘source’.
