Remember the saying ‘old is gold’ or the one which says ‘history repeats itself’? All if this seems to be true if one is talking about jewelry. The demand for vintage wedding rings, vintage earrings and other vintage jewels has seen a constant rise. The modern styles with its geometric designs and minimalistic nature is seeing a gradual setback. Heavy jewels are the in thing and vintage rings with big colorful stones are making their presence felt on the ramps. Jewelry designers have resorted to designing jewels with a vintage touch to them.

Vintage would mean any jewelry that is older than at least fifty years. These jewels can be obtained in multifarious styles and designs depending on which time period they belong to. The vintage rings of the Georgian era are handmade and hence very rare to find these days.

The ones you will find will undoubtedly be on the higher side cost wise.  The vintage rings of this time are inspired by the nature and one can find engravings in the shape of birds, rivers etc. Then came the Victorian era which had its own flavors with passing time. The early Victorian designs, also inspired by nature to some extent, featured intricate designs etched in the gold rings and earrings.

Brooches and pendants were quite in vogue at this time. The mid Victorian era saw more of deeper colored stones like onyx, amethyst and its kinds whereas the later part of the era came out with more sober and feminine designs with its curved and flowing shapes. The late eighteenth century witnessed creation of simple jewels with uncut colorful stones. The Edwardian era that began shortly after this, still remains to be the favorite among many. The king’s lifestyle was richly expressed by the jewelry of this time with their extravagant use of diamonds and rubies with elaborate designs on them. While most of the jewelry of these eras is heavy and more sophisticated, the Art Deco period that followed is represented by its flamboyant, bold and dazzling designs. The vintage earrings and vintage wedding rings of this time can be worn for a flirty or an exciting feel that would give you contrasting look with your jeans. The jewels of this style can make it with any piece of cloth present in your wardrobe. Bakelite and celluloid rings in geometric shape like those of arrows, rockets and sphinx add a zing your evening outing.

Vintage rings and earrings have a wide variety to select from, be it the heavy sophisticated ones, simple and intricate ones or the more dazzling kind. The price always depends on the provenance and the quality of the jewel. Although it is very easy to get any kind of vintage piece in the flea market, the authenticity of those can never be guaranteed. Precious stones always have to be certified by a gemologist and the dealer should be able to provide a provenance certificate to ensure the piece is genuine. The help of an expert in this regard always helps.
